Let the “Sunshine” in…

Beginning in 2006, many states began introducing legislation requiring pharmaceutical and medical device companies to disclose payments or exchanges of financial value to HCPs.  While states have been introducing and enforcing this legislation, the federal government is proposing to increase this reporting to the national level by creating the Physician Payment Sunshine Act (PPSA) that will require the disclosure of HCP spend across all states.

The first “official” PPSA report is due to the government March 13, 2013 and is to include any spend of $10 or more per Health Care Provider (HCP) for the calendar year of 2012.  The United States Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is scheduled to publish the requirements of this reporting on October 1, 2011.

Is your Speakers Bureau and physician interaction database ready for the change?? The federal clock is ticking towards a new dawn of disclosure….
